When the alarm sounds
Treat it as a countdown, not a nuisance. The alarm float sits above the normal operating level, so by the time it sounds the basin is already fuller than it should be and the only thing between you and a backup is the remaining freeboard.
Stop using every fixture that drains to it. On a basement bathroom that is straightforward. On a whole-house system it means stopping laundry, dishwasher and showers until it is resolved.

Wipes and grinder pumps
Grinder pumps are built to handle solids that would stop an ordinary pump, and they do it well. They are not built for modern wipes, and neither is anything else.
Wipes do not break down. They wrap around the cutter assembly and the impeller, they bind together into ropes, and they progressively strangle the pump until it either stalls or burns out. It is the single most common cause of grinder pump failure we see, and it is entirely preventable.
The word "flushable" on the package means the wipe will physically go down the drain. It says nothing about what happens afterward. The same applies to paper towels, feminine products and anything else engineered to stay intact when wet.
