Septic Service & Plumbing in Ten Mile, TN

Watts Bar shoreline in Meigs County — lake homes, converted cabins, and very little licensed septic capability nearby.

Ten Mile sits on the Watts Bar shoreline in northern Meigs County, an unincorporated community wrapped around coves and lake access roads. It is quiet, it is spread out, and it is a long way from anyone with a pump truck.

The lake shapes the septic picture entirely. High seasonal water tables, a large stock of properties converted from seasonal to full-time use, and systems installed under rules that have changed considerably since.

Meigs County is one of the least densely populated counties in this part of the state, and licensed septic capability out here is genuinely scarce. We run this direction on our northern route through Georgetown, Birchwood and Decatur.

Older lakeside systems

Systems installed decades ago along this shoreline went in under different setback rules and often with different expectations about use. Two things follow from that.

First, separation distances. On older lake properties the distances between wells, tanks, fields and the water itself have frequently been compromised by later additions — a field extended, an outbuilding put up, a replacement well drilled somewhere convenient. If you are buying here, that belongs on the inspection list.

Second, capacity. A system built for a fishing cabin will not carry a full-time household. Our septic inspection establishes the permitted design flow and load-tests the field, which is the only way to know whether the system can actually handle how the house is used now.

The wet-season pattern

A field near the lake behaves differently in February than in August, and that seasonal swing gets read as failure constantly.

When the water table rises into the trench zone, the soil cannot accept effluent regardless of the field's condition. Separately, groundwater can enter the tank through cracks or a failed lid seal, filling it independently of anything the household does. Both produce backups; neither necessarily means the field is finished.

Sealing a tank is a repair. Regrading so surface water sheds away from the field rather than across it is cheap. Both are worth ruling out before anybody quotes a rebuild — and on a property this far out, a wrong diagnosis is expensive in wasted trips as well as wasted money.

One of the few who comes this far

Ten Mile is a small, spread-out community a long way from anyone with a pump truck, and the usual local experience is a long wait. We run this direction on our northern route, and because the drive is real we bring both plumbing and septic capability so a single trip covers the whole list.
